History of organic coffee in Nepal 

It has been recorded that Hira Giri introduced coffee growing in 1938. Nepalese farmers have got coffee planting materials (saplings) from government level since 1975 AD. National Tea and Coffee Board was established in the year of 1992 AD. Then, the process of growing organic coffee in Nepal took a somewhat greater and significant speed. About 21000 farmers have been involved in growing organic coffee in Nepal in 40 districts up to the year of 2010.The following coffee experts from the USA, EL Salvador, Central America and India arrived Nepal to orient about growing and processing organic coffee in Nepal

Start of export of organic coffee from Nepal

Salt Trading Corporation of Nepal exported 16 mt of organic coffee to the Netherland in the Fiscal Year 1995-96. Thereafter; every year export of the organic coffee has been growing in Nepal. In the process of export of organic coffee from Nepal; Japan, the USA, Korea, Dubai and some European countries have been importing organic coffee from Nepal. In the year of 2011, the UK has imported organic coffee of Arabica kind from Nepal. Multinational companies of coffee have been selling robust as well as Arabica coffee throughout the world. But; according to the coffee gourmets and scientifically verified information is that fresh Arabica filter coffee is one of the best brain foods in the world.

Since organic coffee of Arabica has been popularly demanded from Nepal, Nepalese farmers have also been working vigorously in growing organic coffee of Arabica kind in Nepal. Organic coffee growing area in Nepal starts from 800 meter from sea level. Nepal organic coffee of the mountain is better. Organic coffee grown in shades is also better. Growing organic coffee in well decomposed cow dung and some oilseed cake manure with no use of chemicals and pesticides is better and highly demanded in the USA, Europe, Japan, Korea, Dubai and other countries. So, farmers have been involved in growing organic coffee in Nepal in the land of in shade, mountain region using organic manure but without the application of deadly poisonous pesticides.

Some processing units are being established to process organic coffee in Nepal in some districts. Palpa, Bhaktapur, Gulmi, Nuwakot, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Kirtipur are already having organic coffee processing units. Gulmi, Arghkhanchi, Palpa, Shyngja, Karki, Kavre, Baglung, Jhapa are the districts of Nepal where farmers are growing organic coffee of Arabica kind in Nepal.
